The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
